Animation and Modeling

I am a generalist when it comes to 3D but my strengths are in modeling and character animation. My focus right now is on interactive gaming content and asset creation. Seeing the new tools that are out there and all the amazing independent games coming out has been a huge inspiration. Check out some of the projects I've worked on below or go to my services page for more information.

Bing the Cat & Croc Rok

Bing & Croc - Mobile Game Characters

I designed these characters for use in a mobile game powered by the Unity game engine. The requirements were to come up with a main character and a villain with a unique look. I chose a style that recalls some of the early days of cartoon animation, both in look and movement.

My process generally involves starting with some basic sketches using photographic reference and then refining it until I get a design I like. From there I will make a clay maquette or bust to further refine the design and to assist me in the 3D modeling. Once this is done I will do a few color sketches, model it in Maya and Mudbox, then texture and rig the final model to prepare it for animation.

When designing a character I like to take into consideration the setting and background that the story takes place. It can be helpful to take a character design and mock it up in the proper location to get a better feel for whether the design works.

Spectre

Big Head - Animation, Modeling, and Compositing for Live Action Film

Spectre was a hobby project that I made when I was inspired by a strange dream. I wrote the film and directed it and did all the effects for it including this CG character that was composited with live action footage. The main challenge of this project with designing a creature that was believable in this world so it could be seamlessly composited.

Circus!

Circus! - Characters, Sets and Props For Film

Circus! is a film I was commissioned to make by Showtime Networks for a film program they had on their website called SHOrt Stories. I came up with the story, conceptualized the sets and characters, and then did all the modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, etc. It was a one man band type of production that strengthened my grasp on the full pipeline for delivering professional 3D content. It also allowed me to fly all the way to China to the Shanghai International Film Festival where it was nominated for best animated film.
